The Daimyo: Biting Off More Than They Can Chew?
by Taro Nakada, October 17th, 1998

The Daimyo The Daimyo.  An elite stable of wrestlers, rivaled only by the current incarnation of Chiimu Tora.  All ready, these two stables are headed for conflict, as Kagemusha cost Shishi "Lion" Fujiwara his debut match on Tsunami, and Banshee & Kabuki Kid have traded barbs for the past two weeks, in preparation for their first round Welterweight tournament match.  Strangely enough, The Ronin, comprised of Kabuki Kid & "Samurai" Kensei Tokugawa, are set to face Hiryuu Batsu, comprised of Banshee & Jet Jaguar II, both of whom are Chiimu Tora members!  It seems as if Jumbo Kobayashi is prodding the Daimyo into a conflict with the stable he himself helped reform!  This reporter smells something fishy!

Regardless, the Daimyo seems willing to take the fight to Chiimu Tora, even if Chiimu Tora outnumbers them 5-3.  So far, Hamada & Takizawa have remained silent on this situation, but don't be surprised to see them interject themselves on behalf of their stablemates down the road.  Hamada takes his role as leader of Chiimu Tora very seriously, and would not allow the group to be humiliated more than it all ready has at the hands of the Daimyo.  Hamada is filling big shoes by taking over from Tiger Kikuchi, and he has no intention of letting his mentor down.

Getting back to the Daiymo, they are no strangers to major feuds.  Their war against Syndicate Japan is well documented, and Tokugawa also angered The Mandarin when he interfered in his big match against Tiger Claw [a classic confrontation totally ruined!].  Kabuki Kid allied himself with Middleweight Champion Joey Rappoport to battle The NorthPac Coalition in a classic tag team bout, and went so far as to first battle, then offer his friendship to, Dan Kauffman.

However, it is this willingness to stretch themselves out that could prove to be their downfall.  If the Daiymo is to survive, it needs to recruit more members.  One such candidate is Dark Dragon, who was in the stable before the WWGP situation.  Where has he gone?  Not even the Ronin can answer that one.  This writer has looked over the current SJPW roster, and has some suggestions for the Daiymo:

  • Yukio "The Warbird" Murakami: This man, like Kensei Tokugawa, is very anti-Gaijin.  His ability speaks for itself.
  • Tasogare no Prince: Another seasoned veteran, he too would make an excellent member.
  • "Young Dragon" Hideoh Kanemera & "Black Dragon" Masato Kurasawa: Both of these newcomers have shown themselves to be enthusiastic, and Kurasawa has gone on to the second round of the Welterweight tournament.
  • "The Doomsayer" Kyle Lee: If Tokugawa can overcome his anti-Gaijin sentiment, this man might make a good member.
The Daimyo are risking themeselves by facing superior numbers.  If they do not even the battlefield, it could prove to be their downfall......
