Trouble Brewing Between SJPW and
SHVF?
by Takuya Yoshida, November 15th, 1998
While fans of Puroresu eagerly await the inaugural card of the revolutionary
Super Hyper Visual Fighting, it appears that the young organization has
already made a powerful business rival.
The problem between the two organizations stems from one man. Ed
Dean. Dean, a long time competitor in Japan, both in the Old Japan
Wrestling organization and in Super Japan Pro-Wrestling, has jumped ship from
SJPW to SHVF.
When asked about Ed Dean's departure from SJPW and his contract with SHVF,
SJPW CEO Jumbo Kobayashi had this to say:
"Ed Dean has violated his employment contract with SJPW and has
committed not only a criminal offense by signing with SHVF but he has
insulted the institution of SJPW by doing so. SJPW is currently
investigating all legal opportunities against both Ed Dean and SHVF over this
transgression. SHVF's illegal recruiting practices will not be condoned
by the laws of our great nation, and we will see that justice is
served. Beyond that, SJPW has no comment." While on the other
side of this matter, SHVF owner Hadi Moditian had this to say.
"Dean-san is a spectacular athlete and a brutal fighter. I am very
excited to have him in SHVF."
In response to claims of contract tampering:
"I don't believe it is tampering to offer a contract to a man who wants
one. His situation with SJPW doesn't interest me. If they have
any problems with his signing, they should feel free to contact my
attorneys. The fact is that his contract with SJPW is for
pro-wrestling, his contract with SHVF is for combat fighting. To the
best of my knowledge, that is perfectly legal. You see SJPW still fails
to realize that we're the real deal. If they ever want a first hand
lesson from our fighters to their professional wrestlers, one can be
arranged."
It would appear that this is a battle that may well be waged in the courts as
well as the wrestling ring. It will be interesting to follow this story
in the weeks and months to come as SHVF seeks to make a name for itself and
seems to be ready to raid other promotions for talent to do so.
