SHVF vs SJPW: The War Rages On!
by Taro Nakada, December 13th, 1998

Jumbo Kobayashi Strong Style vs Puroresu.  This is the new war that Rages in Nippon these days.  From the moment Hadi Moditan announced the creation of Super Hyper Visual Fighting (SHVF), he has continually claimed that "Strong Style" fighting was more realistic, and more exciting than "Puroresu", which is practically the national sport of our great nation!  However, Moditan, while insulting the value of puroresu, has only targeted one promotion: Super Japan Pro Wrestling (SJPW) one of the "Big Two" promotions in Nippon (the other being Gunyro Pro [G Pro] of course!), and not all of puroresu.  This writer finds this stance interesting, ne, amusing!  Does Moditan forget that he himself once ran Pro Japan Wrestling (PJW), which had close ties to SJPW?  When PJW went to an all cruiserweight fed, SJPW, at Moditan's own request, accepted Sunjinski, then PJW Juuryou champion, into SJPW, and even acknowledged and validated his title as a legitimate title in SJPW!

This war has now gone past simple words.  Ed Dean, who violated his SJPW contract by jumping ship to SHVF, once again battles in the rings of SJPW?  Why?  Simple.  SJPW took SHVF to court, and knowing they would lose, SHVF accepted an out of court settlement.  This has backfired on SJPW at the moment, as Dean defeated Noboru Nishida, his former tag team partner, to advance to the second round of the All-Asian Juuryou tournament, where he will face his former nemesis Onslaught, now a member of Chiimu Tora (Another surprise!).  Add in that Eiji Miyazaki, an SHVF competitor, *may* have been hired by members of SJPW's board of directors to make Dean suffer in SHVf, and things are getting out of hand.

Worse still, SJPW CEO Jumbo Kobayashi has gone on the offensive.  A source close to the board of directors informs me that Kobayashi will reactivate one, possibly more, of PJW's titles in SJPW.  Why?  Simple.  When PJW signed a deal with SJPW, there was a clause that allows SJPW to merge these titles into their promotion should PJW fold.  And fold it did!  How Moditan will react to this will be interesting to see.  I'm sure Sunjinski, the last man to hold the PJW title, will not be pleased at this new development.  Will Banshee, another former PJW title holder, see his belt reactivated, and find himself defending a title he thought worthless these past few months?  Time will tell, and this reporter will be keeping a very close eye on the situation!
