Puroresu Stateside? - Yamato-san and RAPTOR©
by Toshiro Kasagi, January 10th, 1999

Statue of Liberty Genji Yamato and RAPTOR© have both won singles titles, respectively, in the U.S.-based promotion World Wrestling Organization.  Both matches took place at WWO's most recent supercard 'Fall Classic' in Atlanta, GA.

Yamato-san was able to overcome Daniel Lewis to obtain the hotly-contested 'terebi' title, or as it is commonly known in the states, the WWO Television Title.

RAPTOR© captured the WWO Cruiserweight Title in somewhat controversial fashion during a *****-star bout with veteran James Pillow.  For the Cruiserweight Tournament final match in its entirety, click here.

In a recent interview, Yamato-san mentioned his intentions of title defenses overseas, but did not elaborate which promotion he would be appearing with.

The rambunctious RAPTOR© had also indicated his intentions of 'taking on all comers' and welcomes the opportunity to defend the newly-won Cruiserweight Title in the Land of the Rising Son.

WWO officials have not yet commented on a 'talent exchange' or any inter-promotional events, but one internet insider reports that the World Wrestling Organization may indeed be leaning in that direction.

One look at the recent 'push' that certain WWO mid-card talent has been receiving as of late would certainly solidify this rumor.  In addition to the recent successes of Yamato-san and RAPTOR©, Yokura Ayamasaki (known in the States as 'Wu-Tang Warrior') has also been thrust into the spotlight.

This 'push' is by virtue of Yokura-san's strong showing at the cruiserweight tournament as well as his recent feud with the Soul Asylum, which has incidentally won the American fans over in a big way.

I'll check back in with more info as it becomes available..
