Kabuki Kid versus
Dan Kauffman
SJPW - 11/??/97
ER: Well, we now come to the second appearance of Dan Kauffman, as he faces Kabuki Kid of the Ronin. What do you think of this match Akira?
AO: Kabuki Kid has tremendous ability, and he has the desire. Kauffman, on the other hand, has the experience. He also has something to prove. He didn't really prove it with Kyu Kabuki, so he HAS to defeat Kabuki Kid tonight.
ER: Interesting opinion.
AO: It's not opinion. It's fact.
ER: On that note, let's go to ringside...
Ring Announcer: This next contest is one fall, 20 minute time limit. Introducing first, from Hagerstown, Maryland, and weighing 226 lbs., DAN KAUFFMAN!!
["Call The Man" comes over the pa, and the crowd erupts as Kauffman comes out on the runway, and surveys the crowd. He heads down the runway, slapping hands with fans. Survival stands up, and catcalls the former world champion, but Kauffman ignores him. As the crowd chants "KAUFF - MAN! KAUFF - MAN!", Dan grabs a microphone at center ring, and looks down the aisleway...]
DK: Kabuki, I know you are back there, and I know you will bring everything to the table. Well, rest assured that I've got my best with me tonight, and I intend on giving you a match you won't soon forget. Because that's what I'm all about. Win or lose, you WILL be challenged. That much is for sure. The rest? Come on down and find out.
[Kauffman sets the microphone on the apron and stares down the aisleway as the endless chants continue... Kauffman seems to stretch a little bit, and he breathes easily waiting for his opponent...]
["Cover Girl" by Tesla blares over the PA. The crowd waits in anticipation to see who this music is for. Suddenly, the curtains to on the runway pull open wide. Standing there in a pink velvet body suit--tight in the bottom and thighs, with flare legs past the knees--with pink heels. She's carrying a microphone.]
Woman: Konnichiwa! I am Ms. Miki, manager of the KABUKI KID!
[The crowd cheers wildly. Ms. Miki climbs into the ring between the top two ropes.]
MM: I want to introduce to you the opponent for this special challenge match with DAN KAUFFMAN. This is an honor for you tonight, because this is his first match on American soil. So, with no further adieu, let me introduce the greatest high-flyer in all of wrestling. He hails from the Land of the Rising Sun, Nagoya, Japan....the KABUKI KID!!!!!
["Hotter than Hell" plays over the PA. A man emerges from behind the curtain wearing a full kabuki robe, with a huge blonde hairpiece, and an mask in the image of an evil spirit. He walks down the entrance way very cautiously. Then, a man dressed in full Samurai garb with a kendo stick comes out and stops and stands at the curtains - he is "THE SAMURAI" KENSEI TOKUGAWA. The Kabuki Kid continues to the ring. He walks up the steps and onto the apron. He grabs the turnbuckle and leaps on top. Facing the inside of the ring, he slides off his robe and hairpiece, handing them to Ms. Miki, revealing his wrestling outfit. He's wearing black pants with a red stripe that swirls around both legs. He has black boots. He stand 5' 10" tall and weights 215 pounds. He pulls off the evil spirit mask very quickly revealing his face paint. It's all white with a red and black bald eagle that covers his eyes, nose and some of his cheeks. He suddenly performs a frontal flip landing feet first on the mat, followed by a tuck and roll to the opposite corner. There he rests against the turnbuckle, and stares across the ring at Dan Kauffman.]
ER: What an entrance by both men! This match is going to be a classic!
AO: It's a match both men eagerly want!
[The referee gives last minute instructions as Ms. Miki exits the ring. Kabuki Kid bows to Kauffman, who bows back. Both men go to neutral corners as the ref calls for the bell...]
ER: And we are underway!
AO: This is a match neither man will EVER forget!
[Both men circle each other, then lock up. They vie for advantage, and Kauffman starts to take control, but Kabuki flips him over with an armdrag. Kauffman gets to his feet, and they lock up again, and Kabuki again catches him with an armdrag. Kauffman again gets to his feet, and Kabuki catches him with a hurricanrana, sending Kauffman across the ring. Kauffman gets to his feet, and Kabuki dropkicks him, sending him back to the ropes. Kauffman comes off the ropes, and Kabuki attempts a hiptoss, but Kauffman reverses! Kabuki hits the mat, does a kip-up to his feet, and Kauffman clotheslines him back to the mat! Survival boos at this, while the rest of the crowd gives a big pop]
ER: Very even match so far!
AO: This is the testing stage. As soon as they know what is their opponent's limits, all stops will be pulled!
[Kauffman drags Kabuki to his feet, and whips him to the ropes. He takes him over with a fireman's carry, applying a wristlock on his arm. He drags Kabuki up by the wristlock, and twists the arm, causing him to double over. Kauffman maneuvers the arm into a hammerlock, and Kabuki straightens up, locks his arm behind Kauffman's head, and snap mares him over! Survival applauds this, and the crowd "ooooohs" Kauffman gets to his feet, and Kabuki hits a stiff European uppercut on him. He hits another one, then whips Kauffman to the corner. He charges in, step laddering up the ropes, backflips off, and spinwheel kicks Kauffman in the chest! The crowd pops for the move, and Kabuki leaps at Kauffman again, taking him out of the corner with a monkey flip!]
ER: Kabuki Kid is starting to take control of this match now!
AO: He's doing a good job of keeping Kauffman off balance with an aerial attack!
[Kauffman gets to his feet, and Kabuki runs to the ropes, springboarding off, and taking Kauffman over with a hurricanrana. Kauffman gets to his feet, and Kabuki charges. He goes for a dropkick, but Dan side steps, and Kabuki crashes hard to the mat. Kauffman immediately grabs Kabuki by the legs, and catapults him to the ropes, where he lands throat first! The crowd "ooooohs" as Kabuki bounces off the ropes, into the arms of Kauffman, who takes him over with a high belly to back suplex. Kabuki rolls on the mat, clutching the back of his head, as Kauffman lays on the ropes, catching his breath]
ER: Kauffman executed an excellent series of moves there Akira!
AO: Yes, he did. The catapult into a hotshot, then a belly to back suplex as Kabuki came off the ropes. All high impact, and little effort on his part.
[Kauffman stands up, and walks over to Kabuki Kid. He drags him to his feet, and lifts him up high in the air, holding him vertical for a few seconds, before falling back into a text book suplex. Kabuki Kid sits up, holding his back, and Kauffman executes a jumping neck snap! Kauffman gets to his feet, and lifts Kabuki Kid off the mat, then drops down into a side suplex. He heads to the corner, and climbs to the top rope. He looks down at Survival, who gives him the finger. Kauffman smiles at him, then comes off the top, legdropping Kid across the chest! The crowd pops at this, and Kauffman grapevines the leg. The ref counts to two before Kid kicks out]
ER: Kauffman is starting to hammer Kabuki Kid with high impact wrestling.
AO: Smart strategy. Take away all his wind, and he can't do all those high flying moves!
[Kauffman drags Kid to his feet, and Kid headbutts him. Kauffman staggers back, and Kid hits a European uppercut. Kauffman staggers back some more, and Kid grabs his arm, and whips him to the ropes. He turns his back to him, then back flips, landing a kick onto Kauffman's chest as he comes off the ropes! Survival stands and applauds, and the rest of the crowd gives a big pop. Kauffman flies over the top rope, and crashes to the floor!]
ER: What a move by Kabuki Kid!
AO: It's called the Kaminari. It takes a lot of precision to execute properly!
[Kabuki Kid goes to the top rope, and looks down at Kauffman. Kauffman rises to his feet, and Kid comes off the top rope, dropkicking Kauffman! The crowd pops as Kauffman flies back about five feet, and crashes into the railing! Kid kip-ups to his feet, and charges Kauffman, who catches him as he leaps, and hotshots him onto the railing! The crowd "ooooohs" at this, and Survival yells out something about disqualifying Kauffman]
ER: What a dropkick by Kabuki Kid! He is totally suicidal!
AO: He is almost as daring as Super Tengu is!
[Kauffman shakes his head, trying to recover from the devastating dropkick, while the ref lays on the count. He drags Kabuki Kid to his feet, and whips him to the railing on the other side of the ring. Kid hits the steel hard, and Kauffman follows behind him, landing an forearm shot across his chest. He scoops Kid up, then slams him to the floor. He jumps up on the apron, and climbs to the top rope. He jumps, turning around onto the top rope, then comes off, landing on top of Kid with a senton splash! The crowd pops wildly over this, and Kabuki Kid looks knocked out!]
ER: Kauffman is laying into Kabuki Kid hard!
AO: He is sticking to his game plan. Kid looks unconscious now!
[Kauffman gets to his feet, the fans reaching out to pat him on the back. He drags Kabuki Kid to his feet, and rolls him into the ring. He jumps up on the apron, grabs the ropes, and slingshots into the ring, elbowdropping Kabuki across the chest. He grapevines the leg, and the ref counts to two and a half before Kabuki Kid kicks out. Kauffman starts to look a little frustrated, then his face becomes calm again. He rolls Kid over onto his chest, and applies a camel clutch. He pulls back hard on his neck, causing Kid's face to contort in pain. He turns a little pale from the pressure Kauffman applies, but refuses to submit]
ER: Kauffman now switching to submission wrestling?
AO: It makes perfect sense. First he wears him down with high impact moves. Now he goes for submission holds, causing more fatigue on his opponent, with little effort on his part.
[Kauffman continues to pull back on Kabuki Kid's neck, who still refuses to submit. Kauffman releases the hold, and stands up. He rolls Kid onto his back, and grabs him by the ankles. He pulls the legs up, as if to do a Boston Crab, and Kid pulls himself up off the mat, slips out of Kauffman's grasp, and takes him over with an armdrag! The crowd pops for this, and Kauffman gets to his feet, a look of surprise on his face. He charges Kid, who catches him with a spinning backbreaker! Kauffman sits up on the mat in pain, and Kid dropkicks him in the back of the head! Kauffman lays on the mat, a dazed look in his eyes. Kid goes out onto the apron, and slingshots into the ring, somersaulting into a senton splash. He rolls to his feet, and runs to the opposite ropes, comes off, runs over Kauffman to the ropes, then hits a springboard moonsault. Some of the crowd actually starts cheering for Kabuki Kid now. Kid gets to his feet, snaps an elbowdrop onto Kauffman's chest, then grapevines his left. The ref drops to count, and gets to one and a half before Kauffman kicks out]
ER: Kabuki Kid is making an amazing comeback! And the crowd is starting to get behind him!
AO: They recognize his talent for what it is. Kabuki Kid is showing the fans in Memphis that he is just as good as Kauffman is!
[Kabuki Kid gets to his feet, exhaustion evident on his face. He drags Kauffman to his feet, and whips him into the corner. He charges him, step laddering up the corner, and dropkicks him in the chest! He backflips off the dropkick, landing on his feet, and spinwheel kicks Kauffman, who slumps down in the corner. Kid looks out at the crowd, many of whom are now chanting for him. He draws his thumb across his throat, then spits mist into the air. He drags Kauffman up, and turns him around. He sits Kauffman up on the top turnbuckle, facing towards the crowd. He goes to the apron, and climbs to the top rope. He grabs Kauffman, and stands him up. He steadies himself, then bends Kauffman over, then POWERBOMBS him off the top rope! The crowd erupts into a tremendous pop over this. Both men lay on the mat, as Kid is too tired to cover after the move]
ER: If Kid can cover Kauffman now, he's gonna win it!
AO: That took a lot out of him. It was risky move, but he can't follow it up!
[Kabuki Kid sits up, and turns towards Kauffman. He crawls over to him on his hands and knees, collapsing on top of him for a cover. The ref drops to count, and Kauffman somehow kicks out at two and three quarters! Kabuki Kid looks dejected, realizing that he lost his chance at victory. He grabs the ropes, and slowly rises to his feet, using the ropes to support him]
ER: I can't believe Kauffman kicked out!
AO: Neither can I, but then again, he had time to recover.
[Kabuki Kid gets to his feet, and lays across the ropes, catching his breath. Kauffman sits up, breathing hard. He crawls over to the ropes, and using them for support, rises to his feet. Both men lay across the ropes, catching their breath. Neither man seems willing to make the first move, and they both stand there for what seems like hours before they both stand up, and stare at each other. They nod to each other, realizing there must be a winner. They lock up, and Kabuki attempts an Irish whip, by Kauffman reverses. Kauffman attempts to put Kid into an abdominal stretch, but he hiptosses Kauffman over. Kid goes for an elbowdrop, but Kauffman rolls out of the way, and both men get to their feet, eyeing each other intently]
ER: They've slowed things down a bit now.
AO: They are both spent. Now it's just a matter of who gets lucky first.
[Both men move towards each other, and Kabuki Kid knees Kauffman in the gut, then takes him over with a vicious snap suplex. He applies a reverse chinlock, and drags Kauffman to his feet with it. Kauffman locks his arms behind Kabuki's head, and drops down into a jawbreaker. Kid is on his knees, holding his jaw as Kauffman gets to his feet. He circles behind Kabuki Kid, who seems unaware that his opponent has moved behind him. Ms. Miki shouts out a warning, but it's too late as Kauffman grabs Kabuki from behind, locking him in a Dragon Sleeper! The crowd "ooooohs" as Kabuki Kid tries to fight it, but it becomes obvious that he is wearing out. He tries to keep alert, but starts to pass out from the pressure of the hold. The ref checks on him, then calls for the bell. Kauffman releases the hold, and the crowd cheers, while Survival and his fans booo]
ER: He got him!
AO: That he did.
Ring Announcer: Your winner, by submission, DAN KAUFFMAN!!!
[The crowd cheers again, as Ms. Miki helps Kabuki Kid to his feet. He shakes his head to tell her he is all right, then walks over to Kauffman. The crowd goes silent as the two men staredown. Suddenly, Kabuki Kid smiles, and bows to Kauffman, who returns the bow. Kauffman offers Kabuki Kid his hand, and Kid shakes it, Kauffman raising his arm in victory. The crowd erupts into cheers at this sign of good sportsmanship]
ER: It seems these men still respect each other.
AO: And well they should. It was a tremendous battle. They proved that two men can face off without any outside interference, and battle to a conclusive winner, and the loser makes no complaints about losing!
ER: They definitely battled an incredible match!
AO: I think this Kabuki Kid will one day prove to be a threat to men like Super Tengu.
ER: You actually think Kabuki Kid could one day beat Tengu?
AO: Surprisingly, yes. He has the talent, and the tools. Now all he needs is the experience.
